National Hotrod Reunion 2017
The sun was shining for this year’s National Hotrod Reunion – an event made even more special by the fact that it marked the 40th anniversary of racing at York Raceway!
There were more new cars this time out, including Spencer Tidswell’s “Battleaxe Warrior” Willys Coupe, a Triumph and a Chevrolet truck which normally race in Outlaw Street, Bob Hawkins’ old “Time Traveller” dragster (now campaigned by York racer Dave Downes) and Ash Rawson’s freshly-finished Plymouth Duster.
The highlight of the weekend though, had to be the best of 3 race between Robin Read in his Daimler-powered nitro dragster, vs Roger Goring in the Firestorm jet-powered Ford Mustang Funnycar! Robin took the overall win in the dragster.
We also had a great selection of altereds racing, with Des Taylor in the Thundergod Model T, John Hughes in the Spiderman Model T and Al Lloyd in the Gonzo the Great Fiat Topolino.
Unfortunately, it’s looking like this may be the last National Hotrod Reunion, as unless funds can be raised to re-lay the track elsewhere on the site, York Raceway will be lost to an automotive parts manufacturer.
This is just a selection of my favourite images. If you’re looking for specific photos and can’t see them here, please try our Facebook page for the full gallery.
We’ve compiled a list of every car that’s covered the quarter mile in 8.99 seconds or less since we started going back in 2007, you can take a look here.
